Community Impact

Our philosophy of “people helping people” can be seen in our daily interactions with members or serving our local community.

Supporting Our Local Communities

Georgia United Credit Union takes great pride in being an active and responsible member of the communities we serve. Every year we support events and programs that focus on strengthening our school systems, financial literacy and helping our communities.

Volunteering

All Georgia United team members are given three paid volunteer days each year to serve at credit union-sponsored programs or for a charitable organization of their choice. Don’t be surprised to find our team members volunteering at a local elementary school career day or rolling up their sleeves for service organizations.

Financial Education

We are passionate about furthering financial literacy in our communities. Our team members can be found hosting educational seminars—both online and in person—to help teach important financial skills like money management, budgeting, investing and more. If you need a speaker for your community group, school or business, we'd love to connect with you.

More through our foundation

The Georgia United Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to improving the quality of life for children and families in the communities we serve. Our Foundation partners with Georgia United Credit Union team members and volunteers to fund and deliver impactful programs across the state including:

I'm so appreciative of the "mission in action" behind the staff at Georgia United Credit Union. The staff at Georgia United are a living embodiment of giving back to the community and for that, the Y is truly grateful. Your gift of dollars and time has a big impact for many in our community's mind, body, and spirit.

Georgia United is very helpful to the community. I always see them giving back, helping young students who are in school and helping young families. Georgia United is a great credit union that I love.

Georgia United Credit Union celebrates new Atlanta branch with ribbon cutting ceremony

Jul 1, 2024

(DULUTH, GA) – With the snip of oversized scissors, Georgia United Credit Union officially marked a new chapter of serving members in downtown Atlanta with its new branch on Marietta Street.

Georgia United CEO Debbie Smith, President Laura King and other executives, board of directors, leaders and team members were joined by Central Atlanta Progress President A.J. Robinson to celebrate and commemorate the relocation of the credit union’s former Whitehall Street branch to the heart of Atlanta’s convention, sports and entertainment district.

“We are so excited to be here – it feels like family, community and home,” said Georgia United Chief Experience Officer Todd Lambright. “To better serve our members that work, live and play downtown, we relocated Georgia United’s Whitehall Street branch to right here where we stand - and our friendly, knowledgeable teammates from the former location came along for the ride.”

The new 2,600-square-foot street level space at 101 Marietta Street, Suite 140 opened for business on April 8. It incorporates the contemporary design and layout elements of Georgia United’s strategic branch transformation program that is redefining the banking experience for members.

"Our team has received additional training, and our tellers are now member consultants. We are no longer stuck behind a traditional teller line and have more availability to meet one-on-one with members and potential members at Service Spots,” said Georgia United Atlanta Branch Manager Erica Brathwaite.

Service Spots are an important part of the branch transformation strategy as an area where members and any branch team member can engage in meaningful discovery and advisory conversations. With the inclusion of ATM+ technology, members can conduct an expanded array of self-service banking transactions formerly completed by tellers. This gives Georgia United’s newly upskilled member consultants time to focus on quality discussions about products, services and solutions while providing an improved level of service with the aid of shareable screens.

“We are excited about the new location, updated layout and opportunity to serve in ways that can truly improve the lives of our members and the surrounding Atlanta community. If you are looking for a financial institution that really cares about you and your financial journey – stop by, we would love to spend some time with you and show you the Georgia United difference,” said Brathwaite.

This location features an exterior ATM+ that provides 24/7 sidewalk access to transactions that were previously only available to members during business hours, like withdrawing cash in multiple denominations.

Regular business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
