Next Steps to Get Started with Georgia United

As we migrate our systems, North Main's digital banking services will be unavailable beginning at 4 pm on September 29. You can enjoy access to your Georgia United account starting October 2, using these steps:

  • Enroll in Online Banking. Discover all the convenient features and services that will make managing your finances a breeze! All you need to get started is your Georgia United member number, Social Security number and the email and phone number associated with your account.
  • Download the app. Get the Georgia United Mobile App from your app store and uninstall your existing North Main Mobile App.
  • Locate your new account and routing numbers. Georgia United's routing number is 261171309 and you can locate your new account number(s) in Online Banking.
  • Enroll in E-Statements. Get your statements securely online. To go paperless, log in to Online Banking and click 'Statements'.

It's easy to pay your loan with Online Banking. You can pay from your account here or at another financial institution. Payments can also be made by debit card, phone, mail or at a branch location.

With the upcoming retirement of CEO Melany Ward, we want to ensure that we continue to bring the most innovative products and services to our members while continuing to grow our membership base and areas of service. Joining Georgia United will allow us to offer more robust products and services, better loan and savings rates, expanded digital services, more physical locations across the state and increased operating efficiencies. Because we both share very similar cultures and values, this merger will allow us to have a greater impact on the community while ensuring the same level of service to our members.

Branch hours will stay the same. They are currently Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday’s from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
The conversion will take place over the weekend, beginning on September 30, 2023. Your accounts will have transitioned and be ready to use as Georgia United on Monday, October 2, 2023. 

Yes. Effective Monday, October 2, 2023, your account numbers and routing number will change. You will receive a welcome letter with your member card containing your unique member number.

Your account number is a 13-digit number that identifies each savings, checking or loan account you have. You can locate your account number securely in Online Banking or the Georgia United Mobile App. Once logged in, click the account on the Dashboard and on the account details screen you can view your account number.

You will have access to 13 full-service Georgia United branches; including the existing branch in Cornelia. For a complete list of all locations, please visit gucu.org/locations.  

Yes. Your savings will continue to be federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per account holder. The NCUA insures IRAs separately up to $250,000. This coverage is identical to the coverage at North Main Credit Union.

There are no new fees being assessed as part of the change.  In many instances many fees previously charged on your account will be eliminated.  A separate account disclosure and fee schedule was sent on September 1, for information purposes. 

Checking & Savings

Beginning, Friday September 29 through Sunday, October 1: North Main Credit Union debit cards will have reduced limits. If you have any anticipated large expenditures for these dates, please be prepared to use your North Main credit card or withdraw cash at the Cornelia branch or ATM+, located at 255 N. Main Street, Cornelia, GA 30531. Your North Main debit card will no longer be active after Sunday, October 1.

Monday, October 2: If you are a debit cardholder, you may activate and begin using your new Georgia United Visa® Debit Card. Please discontinue using your North Main debit card on October 2, and securely destroy your card. You may also bring the card to our office for secure destruction. Remember to update your card number with any merchants that have your information on file for automatic payments as your card number will have changed.   

Your new Georgia United Visa Debit Card will be equipped with more options:

  • Contactless Payments: Tap your card to pay wherever you see a contactless symbol for a quick, secure, convenient, and touch-free transaction!  
  • Digital Wallet Compatibility: Add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay on your mobile device to protect yourself from data breaches, add an additional layer of authentication prior to use and to allow you to conduct touchless payments. 
A check order is available by request and as a courtesy, Georgia United will provide you with a complimentary first order of checks. To request checks, please call 888.493.4328 or visit a branch location.

We would like you to begin using your new Georgia United checks as soon as you request and receive them. Outstanding North Main checks will clear through your new Georgia United account.   

Your North Main Secure Checking Account will be grandfathered in, however, no more additional Secure Checking Accounts can be opened. Visit gucu.org/checking for a complete list of Georgia United checking account products. To access your Econocheck benefits for your Secure Checking, your existing username/password will continue to work through securechecking.com.

If you have a Secure Checking Account, you can access your Econocheck benefits by using your existing username and password at securechecking.com. This account includes a $5 monthly service fee that will continue after the merger. APY is paid on deposits of $0.01 or more and compounds monthly.

Georgia United ATM+ machines are completely free when you use your Georgia United Visa Debit Card! We also won’t charge you a fee to use a non-Georgia United ATM, however, the issuing ATM might charge you a fee. To find an ATM in our network that won’t charge you a fee; visit gucu.org/locations and select the extended network link. 

Yes! After the conversion on October 2, you are able to request a Visa Savings Only Debit Card by contacting 888.493.4328 or visiting the branch. 

Nothing needs to be done and your direct deposit will continue without interruption. However, we encourage you to check all your deposits and recurring transactions to ensure there are not any payment or transfer interruptions. For any new transactions we recommend that you provide your new routing/transit number and account number. 

Loans & Credit Cards

Transactions made on your North Main Credit Card after 11/10/23  (including recurring payments that have not yet been set up on your Georgia United Credit Card) will appear a bit differently than transactions made with your Georgia United Credit Card. These postings will contain the amount of your transaction along with a comment containing the original date of the transaction, the name of the merchant where the transaction was conducted, and a reference to the last four digits of your North Main Credit Card. 

Your current Mastercard has been converted to a Georgia United Visa® Platinum Card. You can now conveniently view and manage your card in Online Banking. Follow these simple steps to make a credit card payment:

  • Instant Access Telephone Teller 

We encourage you to make loan payments online through Online Banking or the mobile app. For all your options, please visit gucu.org/paymyloan. For mail, please make sure to include your current loan number and loan type.

Services

Yes. With Georgia United’s free Instant Access Telephone Teller, you can bank around-the-clock. Using any touch-tone phone, you can check account balances, transfer funds, confirm that a check has cleared, make withdrawals and more. You will use your new member account number and a password that you create to access Georgia United’s Instant Access Telephone Teller at 800.226.3584.

On Friday, September 29, at 4 pm you will not be able to access Online Banking or the mobile app through NMCU. Upon merger completion on Monday, October 2, 2023, you will be able to register for Online Banking through gucu.org. We will be sending enrollment instructions to you. Once registered, you will have full access to your accounts and all online services such as Bill Pay and E-Statements. You will need to re-establish Bill Pay payees and payments to ensure there are no payment disruptions. 

You can view your previous North Main member statements online when you enroll in E-Statements in Online Banking. E-Statements are available online for the last 18 months. If you need to view a statement older than 18 months, please contact our Member Care Center at 888.493.4328.

In addition to the current North Main branch location, Georgia United offers 12 convenient banking locations. You will have access to a wider array of consumer banking products and services – savings and checking, loans and mortgages – each with different features and benefits to provide the financial solution that works best for you.  Georgia United also offers a full suite of services including Online Banking, Mobile Banking with Mobile Deposit*, ATM+ and Visa debit and credit cards.  

If you apply for a consumer loan it must be closed by September 29, 2023.
