What You Can Expect
During this transition, our primary objective is to minimize any disruptions for members. To assist you in preparing, we have provided a comprehensive overview with all the essential information.
- Online Banking blackout. During the migration of our systems, North Main's Online Banking service will no longer be available beginning Friday, September 29, at 4 pm. On Monday, October 2, you can enroll in Georgia United's Online Banking service and download the Georgia United Mobile App. You will need your email, phone number, SSN and member number to enroll.
- New member number and routing number. Your North Main member number will be replaced with a new Georgia United member number. Be on the lookout for important communications about this coming soon.

Why did North Main Credit Union decide to merge with Georgia United?
With the upcoming retirement of CEO Melany Ward, we want to ensure that we continue to bring the most innovative products and services to our members while continuing to grow our membership base and areas of service. Joining Georgia United will allow us to offer more robust products and services, better loan and savings rates, expanded digital services, more physical locations across the state and increased operating efficiencies. Because we both share very similar cultures and values, this merger will allow us to have a greater impact on the community while ensuring the same level of service to our members.
Will the branch hours change?
When will my accounts become Georgia United accounts?
Will my account numbers change?
Yes. Effective Monday, October 2, 2023, your account numbers and routing number will change. You will receive a welcome letter with your member card containing your unique member number.

When can I start banking at Georgia United branches?

How many branches will I have access to?
You will have access to 13 full-service Georgia United branches; including the existing branch in Cornelia. For a complete list of all locations, please visit gucu.org/locations.
Will my deposits continue to be insured?
Yes. Your savings will continue to be federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per account holder. The NCUA insures IRAs separately up to $250,000. This coverage is identical to the coverage at North Main Credit Union.
Will there be any fees assessed to my account as a result of this change?
Checking & Savings
May I continue to use my North Main debit card after the merger?
Beginning, Friday September 29 through Sunday, October 1: North Main Credit Union debit cards will have reduced limits. If you have any anticipated large expenditures for these dates, please be prepared to use your North Main credit card or withdraw cash at the Cornelia branch or ATM+, located at 255 N. Main Street, Cornelia, GA 30531. Your North Main debit card will no longer be active after Sunday, October 1.
Monday, October 2: If you are a debit cardholder, you may activate and begin using your new Georgia United Visa® Debit Card. Please discontinue using your North Main debit card on October 2, and securely destroy your card. You may also bring the card to our office for secure destruction. Remember to update your card number with any merchants that have your information on file for automatic payments as your card number will have changed.
Your new Georgia United Visa Debit Card will be equipped with more options:
- Contactless Payments: Tap your card to pay wherever you see a contactless symbol for a quick, secure, convenient, and touch-free transaction!
- Digital Wallet Compatibility: Add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay on your mobile device to protect yourself from data breaches, add an additional layer of authentication prior to use and to allow you to conduct touchless payments.
Will I receive new checks with my new checking account number?
May I continue to use my North Main checks after the merger?
We would like you to begin using your new Georgia United checks as soon as you request and receive them. Outstanding North Main checks will clear through your new Georgia United account.
What will happen to my Secure Checking Account?
Your North Main Secure Checking Account will be grandfathered in, however, no more additional Secure Checking Accounts can be opened. Visit gucu.org/checking for a complete list of Georgia United checking account products. To access your Econocheck benefits for your Secure Checking, your existing username/password will continue to work through clubchecking.com.
Will I be charged for ATM+ withdrawals?
Georgia United ATM+ machines are completely free when you use your Georgia United Visa Debit Card! We also won’t charge you a fee to use a non-Georgia United ATM, however, the issuing ATM might charge you a fee. To find an ATM in our network that won’t charge you a fee; visit gucu.org/locations and select the extended network link.
Can I request a savings only debit card to use at the ATM+?
I have a direct deposit set up for my paycheck into my North Main account. Do I need to notify my employer of the change to my account number?
Nothing needs to be done and your direct deposit will continue without interruption. However, we encourage you to check all your deposits and recurring transactions to ensure there are not any payment or transfer interruptions. For any new transactions we recommend that you provide your new routing/transit number and account number.
Loans & Credit Cards
If I have a North Main MasterCard® Credit Card – what changes can I expect?
In November, we will be converting your current Mastercard to a Georgia United Visa® Platinum Card. Cardholders will receive a communication with more details. Until then, everything will remain the same with your card, and our team members at the Cornelia branch will be able to assist with your credit card inquiries.

How do I pay my loan?
There are several convenient ways in which loan payments may be made:
- Online Banking
- ATM+
- Debit Card
- In-person at the branch
- Instant Access Telephone Teller
We encourage you to make loan payments online through Online Banking or the mobile app. For all your options, please visit gucu.org/paymyloan. For mail, please make sure to include your current loan number and loan type.

Services
Can I bank by telephone?
Yes. With Georgia United’s free Instant Access Telephone Teller, you can bank around-the-clock. Using any touch-tone phone, you can check account balances, transfer funds, confirm that a check has cleared, make withdrawals and more. You will use your new member account number and a password that you create to access Georgia United’s Instant Access Telephone Teller at 800.226.3584.
Will I continue to have access to my accounts through Online Banking?
On Friday, September 29, at 4 pm you will not be able to access Online Banking or the mobile app through NMCU. Upon merger completion on Monday, October 2, 2023, you will be able to register for Online Banking through gucu.org. We will be sending enrollment instructions to you. Once registered, you will have full access to your accounts and all online services such as Bill Pay and E-Statements. You will need to re-establish Bill Pay payees and payments to ensure there are no payment disruptions.
